Halkirk is trying hard to survive. Each year it,s presented with new challenges that can't be passed-off and swept under the pavement. There has been numerous changes to the landscape over the years that were made with good intentions only to find out that they did not last as long as predicted. An example of this is the pavement on our streets. The goal was to have all the streets in the village covered with long lasting pavement. I seems that we no sooner get one street completed when the ones done prior need repairs. All installations are done with grant money and engineering supervision, which leaves one to wonder what good are these improvements. There is no recourse or warranty to fall back on so the poor little village must make good for the repairs. Anyway, that's life as such and things go on.
All things are subject to change within the the village boundrys. On May 8 2018, a long standing landmark was taken down to make way for a new entity, namely a park. Change is forthcoming for all future things. The little house on main street that was remembered as Harry and Annie Stewarts house was laid to rest and can only be seen in pictures. These are a few pic's taken during the teardown.
